IUD Placement + Removal

Earn 3 Contact Hours (Rx = 3 hrs)

Patty Cason, MSN, FNP-BC

Practicum participants will receive background information and learn placement techniques for five intrauterine devices currently available: Mirena®, PARAGARD®, Skyla®, Liletta® and Kyleena®. Hands-on practice will be supervised by experienced preceptors.

Nexplanon® Placement + Removal

No Contact Hours

Training Provided by Merk

Practicum attendees will learn how to identify appropriate patients, prepare patients and manage technical issues. They will also receive hands-on, supervised instruction on the latest techniques for placement, localization, removal and re-insertion of Nexplanon™ (etonogestrel implant) in an artificial model.

Fertility Awareness-Based Methods (FABM) / Natural Family Planning

Earn 1.25 Contact Hours

Approaches to fertility awareness-based methods (FABMs) have evolved over the past decades. With the federal government's renewed emphasis on FABMs, this session will provide information about six different types of FABMs available and how to discuss them with people interested in natural family planning options.

Contraception for Women with Complex Medical Conditions

Earn 1.5 Contact Hours (Rx = 1.5 hrs.)

Using the updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Medical Eligibility Criteria (MEC) for Contraception and the CDC Selected Practice Recommendations (SPR), this session will provide case studies to explore best practices for women with a variety of chronic medical conditions. In addition, contraception (and menstrual bleeding management) for women with developmental disabilities will be reviewed.
