APAOG Official Statements
The Association of Physician Associates in Obstetrics and Gynecology (APAOG) affirms that abortion care is an essential component of comprehensive reproductive health and falls within the scope of practice for physician associates (PAs). PAs play a critical role in expanding access to safe, evidence-based reproductive services, including abortion, and are integral members of the obstetrics and gynecology care team.
APAOG fully supports PAs in providing abortion care in accordance with their education, clinical experience, and state laws. Restricting PAs from offering this care is not supported by medical evidence, undermines patient access, and perpetuates inequities in reproductive health.
Therefore, APAOG opposes any legislative, regulatory, or institutional barriers that limit or prohibit PAs from providing abortion care. APAOG advocates for policies that enable PAs to practice to the full extent of their training, uphold patient autonomy, and ensure timely access to the full spectrum of reproductive health services.
